Fill in what you know about your office. You see straight away how many desks you can spare and how much that saves per year.
An office set up for the average day has too few spots on Tuesday and Thursday. That is why we first count who is in on average, then what the busiest day adds, and we keep a reserve. Below is the calculation with your numbers. You can read where the numbers come from in the frequently asked questions.
You need desks for the highest bar, plus a reserve. The dotted line is the number you keep according to this calculation. The distribution across the days is an example.
The calculator shows how many desks you can spare. AppjePlekje makes sure it then actually works, for your colleagues and for you as the admin.
Colleagues book their desk for the day they come in and immediately see who else is coming in that day. If it is full, they choose another day. That way nobody is left without a spot, even with fewer desks than people.
The dashboard shows per day, per floor and per group how many spots are booked. After a few weeks you know how many desks you need, measured instead of estimated.
Do all teams come in on Tuesday? With a maximum per group and per weekday you spread the spots across the week. Then you need fewer desks on your busiest day.
DEKRA's 80 employees in Alkmaar work partly from home and partly at the office. They book their desk and parking space through AppjePlekje, so DEKRA knows in advance how many people are coming in. With that insight the company was able to reduce its office space to a single floor.
A user-friendly solution that has helped us keep desks and parking well organised in our hybrid work environment.

Use the result as a first estimate. How many desks you really need depends on the days your teams choose and on how often people actually come in. Measure your occupancy for a few weeks before you get rid of any furnishings.
The cost of a desk comes from the NFC Index 2025 by Facility Management Nederland. An office costs on average €637 per m² per year and a desk takes up 22.6 m² on average. Just over half of that belongs to the building itself, such as rent, service charges, energy, cleaning, maintenance and furnishings. That comes to about €670 per desk per month. We do not count IT and services such as catering and security, because those remain when you remove a desk.
The split between building and services comes from the NFC Index 2024 annual report. It also states that average attendance at Dutch offices is 36%.
The FD via Accountant.nl (2026) reports that the busiest days are Tuesday and Thursday. The uplift of 10, 25 or 40% for your busiest day is our own estimate. You can adjust all numbers in the calculator yourself.
On the busiest day there are also guests, new colleagues and people who come in for an extra day. Without a reserve, the office is full on such a day before everyone has arrived. The reserve is set to 10% and you can adjust it under Assumptions in the calculator.
Count how many people are there on a few busy days, or look at the data from the access system. Enter that number in the calculator, below the choices for your busiest day. The calculator then uses your number instead of an estimate.
The calculation happens in your browser and we do not store your input. We only count how often the calculator is used and what result it gives, without knowing who you are.
